What this means for patients
Lymphedema — known in Turkish as "fil hastalığı" (elephant disease) — was long considered untreatable. Prof. Dr. Karaaltın is one of only a few physicians in the world offering surgical treatment for lymphedema with microvascular lymph node transfer, alongside his work in microvascular free flaps, nerve transfers and tissue transplants.
