    Mummy Makeover

Combined breast and abdominal restoration after pregnancy

A Mummy Makeover is a single planned operation that restores the areas most changed by pregnancy and breastfeeding: the abdominal wall, the breast, and the waistline. Rather than treating each concern in separate operations months apart, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Veli Karaaltin plans them as one staged surgical session, tailored to your anatomy, your delivery history, and your recovery capacity.

Every plan is built around what is safe for you. Combining procedures is only recommended when your health assessment, operative time, and recovery support allow it — otherwise the plan is deliberately split into stages.

    What a Mummy Makeover Includes

    01

    Abdominoplasty

Removal of excess lower abdominal skin and repair of the separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti) that pregnancy leaves behind. This restores core support, not only the outer contour.

    02

    Breast Lift, Augmentation or Both

Breastfeeding commonly leaves volume loss with descent. Depending on your tissue, the plan may be a lift (mastopexy), an implant or fat-based augmentation, or an augmentation-mastopexy combining both.

    03

    Circumferential Liposuction

Waist, flank and upper-back contouring performed in the same session to define the silhouette that abdominoplasty alone cannot reach.

    When to Have It

    • 01Completed family planning — a future pregnancy can reverse abdominal wall repair.
    • 02At least six months after you stop breastfeeding, so breast volume has stabilised.
    • 03A stable weight held for roughly three to six months.
    • 04No untreated anaemia, thyroid or vitamin deficiency — these are checked before scheduling.

    Safety and Operative Planning

Combined procedures are planned around total operating time, not patient preference alone. Prof. Dr. Karaaltin limits combined sessions to what can be performed safely in one anaesthetic, with full thromboembolism prophylaxis, warming, and staged positioning.

Full preoperative work-up including anaesthesia clearance.

Mechanical and pharmacological clot prophylaxis throughout.

Planned staging when the safe operative window would be exceeded.

Overnight hospital observation with an on-site surgical team.

    Recovery Timeline

    • Days 1–3: walking assisted, upright rest position, compression garment fitted.
    • Week 1: drains typically removed, dressings changed, light self-care resumed.
    • Weeks 2–4: desk work and light daily activity for most patients.
    • Weeks 6–8: return to gym and core exercise once cleared.
    • Months 3–12: swelling settles progressively and scars continue to mature.

    Ideal Candidates

    Post-Pregnancy Changes

Loose lower abdominal skin, muscle separation and breast volume change after one or more pregnancies.

    Stable Weight and Health

A weight you can maintain, no active smoking, and no uncontrolled medical conditions.

    🔬

    Completed Family Planning

No further pregnancies planned, so the abdominal repair remains durable.

    Realistic Recovery Support

Help available at home with young children for the first two to three weeks.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can everything be done in one operation?

Often, but not always. If the combination would exceed a safe anaesthetic time for your health profile, the plan is split into two stages, usually three months apart.

How long should I stay in Istanbul?

Plan for ten to fourteen days so drains can be removed, wounds reviewed and fitness to fly confirmed before departure.

    Will the scars be visible?

The abdominoplasty scar is placed low so underwear and swimwear cover it. Breast scars depend on the technique chosen and are discussed at consultation.

    Does the muscle repair last?

Yes, provided you do not have another pregnancy and maintain a stable weight. A subsequent pregnancy can stretch the repair again.

Is a Mummy Makeover the same as a tummy tuck?

No. A tummy tuck addresses the abdomen alone. A Mummy Makeover deliberately combines the abdomen with the breast, and usually liposuction, in one plan.
