The story
Al Arabiya English reported that Turkish surgeons in Istanbul separated Algerian conjoined twins Safaa and Chifaa in an operation lasting around nine hours. The twins were joined at the chest and abdomen and had been brought to Türkiye for specialist care.
Prof. Karaaltın's role
The report named Prof. Dr. Mehmet Veli Karaaltın among the surgeons supervising the operation. As a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, his field covers restoring the chest and abdominal wall once twins are separated — one of the hardest parts of these operations.
