Breast Augmentation with Implant

It is a surgical procedure that involves placing an implant to enhance the volume of the breast. Although breast augmentation is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic procedures, the process should be customized and planned individually for each patient. Decisions regarding the type of breast implant, size of the implant, structure of the implant (round, teardrop, smooth, textured), the incision used to introduce the implant (breast fold, armpit, areola), placement of the implant, and creation of the implant pocket (submuscular, subfascial, hybrid, and under the breast tissue) are all key decisions that should be made in collaboration with Dr. Karaaltın to achieve optimal results.

Is it being crucial to note that while the procedure can enhance the size and shape of your breast (to a certain limit), it cannot significantly lift your breast or relive breast issued pain or drastically change the shape of your breast. If you have significant sagging of your breast due to age, pregnancy, nursing, or weight loss, you may require a breast lift with or without breast augmentation to achieve your desired look.

Why Do We Seek a Breast Augmentation Procedure?

Most patients choose to have breast implant surgery to increase their breast size. You might want to fill out clothing better, look better in outfits, tops, or swimsuits, or feel more confident at the beach. Breast augmentation is an important component of body contouring procedures and is one of the major foundations to achieve the figure you want.

Breast implants are measured in cubic centimeters (CC). Generally, a 150 cc size will enhance your breast by approximately one cup size. Do not rely on bra sizes, as they can vary from brand to brand. The bra size in Victoria’s Secret may be completely different from the bra size in Dolce & Gabbana.

Dr. Karaaltın will provide accurate information during your consultation. All possibilities, body measurements, and your preferences will be considered for the implant selection.

What to Expect After a Breast Augmentation

After your breast augmentation (with implants) procedure, you will be placed in a dressing wrap or surgical bra. Depending on your surgeon's preferences, you may also have negative pressure drains (Hemavac) to prevent the accumulation of debris and residual blood around the implant.

You will have a light dressing covering the incision area. Mild to moderate swelling is typical after the surgery. You may shower the day after the procedure.

Dr. Karaaltın employs a multimodal pain management plan to reduce or eliminate the need for narcotic pain medications, which helps patients recover quickly and feel more like themselves soon after surgery.

Most of our patients are ready to return to work within 10 days to two weeks. Dr. Karaaltın Clinic staff will see or communicate with you daily to ensure proper healing. Most swelling begins to subside within the first one to two weeks and typically resolves within 6-12 weeks. We advise avoiding strenuous activity or heavy lifting over 10 kg for 6-8 weeks during the healing process.

What Incision or Approach Do You Recommend?

Dr. Karaaltın and his team most commonly perform breast augmentation through a well-hidden incision under the breast fold. In certain cases or based on patient preference, the surgeon may use an incision around the nipple; however, plastic surgery literature indicates that incisions around the nipple are associated with an increased risk of capsular contracture (firm scarring around the implant). Some patients who are particularly sensitive about having a scar on the breast might opt for a scarless procedure using the armpit (transaxillary) approach.
