Patient Care — Scar Healing
Sylke® Silk Wound Care
A gentle, silk-based wound closure I now use for my patients — designed to protect your incision and support a finer, calmer scar.
What is Sylke?
Pure silk, kind to your skin
Sylke is a sterile wound-closure strip woven from pure silk fibroin — a natural structural protein, not a synthetic plastic. It holds the edges of your incision together and protects the wound while it heals.
Because it is made without cyanoacrylate glues and natural rubber latex, it is remarkably gentle on the skin. I chose it for my patients because comfortable healing and a beautiful scar go hand in hand.
Natural silk fibroin
A breathable woven silk mesh that softly conforms to the contours of your body.
Gentle on skin
Made without cyanoacrylate adhesives or latex — designed to reduce the skin irritation and blisters common tapes and glues can cause.
Water-resistant
It tolerates normal daily life and light showering — just avoid soaking or prolonged immersion.
Up to 14 days of wear
One strip can protect your incision for up to two weeks, so the wound rests undisturbed.
After your surgery
Caring for your Sylke strip
If I have placed a Sylke strip over your incision, these simple rules will help it do its work:
Leave the strip in place until your follow-up visit — do not peel it back or trim it yourself.
Light showering is fine, but do not soak the area in a bath, pool or sea, and pat — never rub — the strip dry.
Keep the area clean and dry otherwise; do not apply creams, oils or ointments over the strip unless I have asked you to.
If an edge lifts slightly, do not worry — leave it and mention it at your next visit or message us.
The strip is single-use and sterile; it will be removed or replaced by our team when the time is right.
Contact us straight away if you notice increasing redness, warmth, swelling, pain, discharge or fever — these can be signs of infection and should never wait.

A personal note
How I discovered Sylke
At our recent national TPRECD meeting in Antalya, I had a lovely conversation with Dr. Mark Mofid at the Sylke booth. We spoke about silk fibroin, about how often ordinary tapes and glues injure the very skin we work so hard to heal — and about how much our patients deserve better.
That conversation stayed with me. After reviewing the science behind Sylke, I began using it for my own patients — and I am delighted with how comfortable their recovery has become.
